The annual lighted
Christmas Parade, sponsored by the City of Athens, was a huge success! This year's Christmas Parade, Christmas Around the Square, took place on
December 1st and had more than 70 parade entries.
Thousands of spectators
lined the parade route in downtown Athens to watch the lighted Christmas
Parade, which featured numerous floats, marching bands, antique cars, ATVs,
horses, and of course Santa Claus! For the first time, several of the
local churches worked together to bring Athens a rolling live nativity, spread
out over eleven floats. The Grand Marshall was Athens' very own Mayor and
City Council members.
Downtown Athens was
bustling with people enjoying the festivities. The Light Up Athens Committee sponsored Holiday on the Square that kicked off at 4 p.m. and offered a Holiday
Market, arts and crafts, visits with Santa and a lighting of the Christmas
tree. Local churches sponsored an After Parade Party downtown with bounce
houses, food, entertainment, and lots of fun. The Athens Central Business
Association sponsored movies and popcorn in Ginger's Park. It was truly a wonderful event for the entire family.
Be sure and check out the Christmas Parade photo album on Facebook and mark your calendar to attend the 2013 Christmas Parade on December 7th in Athens, Texas.
Athens City officials and parade judges present the Grand Prize winner, Crestway Park Dental, a check for $500, sponsored by Republic Services. |
